One of These Cars Killed Him
A Murder Mystery Elimination Puzzle Book
57,800 Plates · 11 Clues · One Car
He stopped to change a tire on the darkest road in the county.
Marcus Greer ran the food bank his father started in a church basement in 1974. One night a year they rent a hall and feed four thousand people, no questions asked. It has happened every Christmas Eve for fifty years.
He left the warehouse alone at 22:40 with the last van. He got two miles. It was found on the shoulder of Cardwell Mill Road with the hazards on, the jack still under the axle, and one box in the road.
Cardwell Mill is the six-lane freight connector to the airport — no houses, no turnings, nothing to get off onto for two and a half miles. A contractor had a survey gantry over each end that December, counting traffic for an invoice. Between eight that evening and four on Christmas morning they logged over a hundred thousand reads between them: 57,800 different cars.
Every one of them is printed in this book. The car that killed him is on one of these pages — it has to be. Eleven established facts survive from the investigation. Not one of them names the car. Together they name it exactly once.
